Annual Saints Cyril and Methodius Appeal - Slovak Catholic Federation

The Slovak Catholic Federation

APPEAL

The Slovak Catholic Federation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization under the group ruling granted to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) for all Catholic institutions listed in The Official Catholic Directory published annually by P.J. Kenedy and Sons. Contributions to the Federation for the Appeal are tax-deductible to the extent allowable by law.

The Pontifical College of Saints Cyril and Methodius in Rome is the residence of priests from Slovakia sent by their bishops for post-graduate studies in Canon Law, Moral Theology, Sacramental Theology, Sacred Scripture, Sacred Theology, or Sacramental Theology. Once these priests receive their degrees, they return to their home dioceses in Slovakia where their bishops assign them as teachers, canon lawyers, or other works for the good of the church.

The Saints Cyril and Methodius Appeal was established in 1979 to raise funds to help offset the operating costs of the college. The Appeal has raised nearly $2.7 million in its 45 years of existence.

The Appeal began as a second collection taken up in Slovak personal parishes. While some parishes continue this tradition, the vast majority of funds are received through a direct mail campaign. The mailing is sent to members of the Slovak Catholic Federation, clergy of Slovak heritage, local district and branch leaders of Slovak Catholic fraternal benefit societies, and previous donors.
